How do I connect to my Rust server?

How to connect to your Rust server through the console or the server list, and where to set RCON and Oxide or Carbon.

By Hermie Updated

You connect to your Rust server through the in-game console (F1) with the address and port, or through the server list. Rust has no password to join.

Find your address and port

  1. Log in to the game panel and open your server.
  2. Go to Network. It shows your server's address (Hostname) and Port. The same details are also on your service in the client portal.
  3. Make sure your server is running. If it's off, click Start in the Console.

Extra ports

Besides the main port, your server has three extra ports: for the Steam server list (QUERY_PORT), for remote administration (RCON_PORT) and for the Rust+ app (APP_PORT). They are already set up; you don't need to do anything with them.

Connect through the console

  1. Start Rust and press F1 to open the console.
  2. Type client.connect address:port with the address and port from Network, and press Enter.

Connect through the server list

Your server is also in Rust's server list. Search for your server's name under Community, or under Modded if your server runs Oxide or Carbon (FRAMEWORK under Startup). It can take a few minutes for a new server to appear in the list.

RCON and mods

In the game panel under Startup, among other things:

  • RCON_PASS: the password for remote administration. It was filled in at random when your server was created.
  • FRAMEWORK: choose vanilla, oxide or carbon. With Oxide or Carbon you can use plugins.

Restart your server after you change something.

Not working?

Check in the Console that the server has fully started and that you use the port from Network. If it still doesn't work, open a ticket with your server's name and the message you see in the game.
