What is a Virtual Private Server (VPS)?

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a powerful and flexible web hosting solution. VPS combines the benefits of both shared hosting and dedicated hosting. In VPS hosting, a physical server is divided into multiple virtual servers. Each server has its own resources such as CPU, RAM, and storage space. Why host your VPS in the Netherlands?

Location is more than a flag on a map. It decides which network carries your traffic, how short the path to your visitors is, and which law your data falls under.

Dutch data centres

Your VPS runs at BIT in Ede or at Greenhouse in Naaldwijk, both on Dutch soil. The network core sits at two Amsterdam sites, NorthC and NIKHEF, so a single failure does not take the network down. Your data stays in the Netherlands, under Dutch and EU law.

Our own network, not a resold line

Your traffic runs over our own AS211588. That network connects to five transit providers and sits on six internet exchanges: ERA-IX, NL-ix, Frys-IX, Speed-IX, nine and 1-IX EU, with ports of up to 100 Gbit/s. On top of that we peer directly with more than 600 other networks.

Short paths, low latency

Because of that direct peering, traffic to Dutch, Belgian and German providers crosses the exchange directly, without a detour through a transit network abroad. Fewer hops means lower latency and fewer places where things can go wrong. You can check your exact path yourself on bgp.tools.

Bandwidth: fair use, no small print

Looking for a VPS in the Netherlands with unlimited bandwidth? We would rather call it what it is: fair use, measured at the 95th percentile. We measure your traffic continuously and drop the top five percent of samples. A peak costs you nothing; only structurally high usage counts, and the limit is agreed per situation. No allowance that runs out and no "unlimited" that gets throttled later.
