Can I set up peering?

Yes. PlanetNode peers with other networks at internet exchanges and has an open peering policy. We are also there for education and research networks, and for people with their own AS who are learning how BGP works in practice.

Where we peer

Our network is AS211588, held by Innovation Harbor B.V. At the time of writing we are present at:

• Frys-IX (Netherlands)
• ERA-IX Amsterdam (Netherlands)
• NL-ix (Netherlands)
• Speed-IX (Netherlands)
• 1-IX EU (Poland)
• nine (France)

We are not connected to AMS-IX. If you take colocation in Naaldwijk you can get your own AMS-IX connection there through a cross connect; that is your connection, not our peering.

Exchanges come and go. Always check the current list on bgp.tools before you send a request.

Who can peer with us?

• Networks at the same exchange: a session through the route servers or a direct session, whichever you prefer.
• Education and research networks: universities, colleges and research institutions.
• Hobby and learning networks: if you run your own AS and want hands-on BGP experience, we are happy to peer with you.

What peering gives you

• Shorter paths: traffic between our networks goes straight over the exchange instead of through a transit provider.
• Lower transit costs: traffic that flows over peering does not count on your transit.
• A direct contact: you talk to us directly when something is up with the connection.

Sending a peering request

1. Open a support ticket.
2. Include: your AS number, which exchange(s) you want to peer at, your peering IPs and whether you want a session through the route servers or a direct session.
3. We configure the session on our side and let you know when it can come up.

Mention it if you only want to peer over IPv6 or if your prefixes are not in the IRR yet, so we can sort that out first.
