How do I change the PHP version or PHP settings?

You choose the PHP version and settings such as memory_limit and max_execution_time yourself in DirectAdmin, in CloudLinux's PHP Selector.

By Hermie Updated

You choose the PHP version and PHP settings yourself in DirectAdmin, in the PHP Selector. Our webhosting runs on CloudLinux, and with the PHP Selector you set the version and options per account.

Which versions are available?

Generally you can choose from the four latest PHP versions. Exactly which ones, you'll see in the PHP Selector itself.

Changing the PHP version

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via the link in your welcome email, or go to my.planetnode.net, open your webhosting product and click the login button.
  2. Open the PHP Selector. In the menu it's called Select PHP Version. If you don't see it right away, use the search field in DirectAdmin.
  3. Choose the PHP version you want to use.
  4. Save your choice.

Note

First check that your website, your theme and your plugins support the new version. Does your site show errors after switching? Then switch back to the previous version.

Changing PHP settings

In the same PHP Selector you change the options, for example:

  • memory_limit: how much memory a script may use;
  • max_execution_time: how long a script may run;
  • max_input_vars: how many fields a form may submit. You sometimes need this for large menus or page builders in WordPress.
  1. Open the PHP Selector as described above.
  2. Go to the options.
  3. Change the value and save.

Good to know

Your choice applies to your whole account.
