Zero tolerance for abuse
We have a zero-tolerance policy for abuse. If spam or other abuse comes from your VPS, we take measures. So make sure your mail server is properly secured and is not an open relay.
Tips for a good mail server
Whether your mail arrives is decided by the receiving mail server. We can't guarantee it. These steps do improve the chance:
- Set up reverse DNS (PTR) for your VPS's IP address. You request it from support with a ticket. Include the IP address and the hostname you want.
- Use a hostname that matches the PTR. Set the same hostname on your VPS, for example
mail.yourdomain.com, and point that hostname to the same IP address with an A record. - Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain. SPF states which servers may send mail for your domain. DKIM signs your mail. DMARC tells receivers what to do when a check fails.
Check your PTR
On Linux or macOS, dig -x <ip-address> +short shows which hostname belongs to your IP address.
Port 25 may close
Are you building something that relies on port 25? Keep in mind that this policy may change.
