How much traffic can I use on my VPS and how fast is the port?

A VPS has a 10 Gbit/s port as standard. Your traffic falls under fair use, measured at the 95th percentile, without a fixed amount of GB per month.

A VPS has a port speed of 10 Gbit/s as standard. Your traffic falls under our fair use policy, measured at the 95th percentile. So you don't have a fixed amount of GB per month.

Port speed

Your VPS port is 10 Gbit/s as standard. That is the maximum speed at which your VPS can send and receive.

Fair use at the 95th percentile

Your traffic is measured continuously throughout the month. At the end of the month the highest 5% of the measurements are dropped. The highest measurement that remains is your 95th percentile. Short peaks therefore don't count.

What level falls within fair use is on the fair use page. That figure is deliberately not in this article, so you always see the current one.

Older tariffs with a GB limit

Older tariffs named a monthly data allowance in GB. That is no longer how it works. If you still see a GB limit in an old description, it no longer applies.

What happens if you go over fair use?

If you're structurally above fair use, support contacts you. You then choose how to continue:

  1. A bandwidth commit. You agree on how much traffic you take.
  2. A capped speed. We lower the speed of your port, so you stay within fair use.

Difference from a dedicated server

A dedicated server works differently: it comes with a commit, an agreement with sales on how much traffic you take. See How is my dedicated server's traffic billed?
