Can I get cross-connects between racks?

Yes. PlanetNode delivers cross-connects between racks in the same datacenter. The price depends on where the racks are: between racks that stand directly next to each other a cross-connect is cheap; further apart the connection runs over the datacenter's patching infrastructure and you pay the rate that comes with it. There is always at least a one-off fee for the patching.

What is a cross-connect?

A cross-connect is a physical cable (fibre or copper) between two racks in the same datacenter. It gives you:

• A direct connection between your own racks, without touching the public network
• Private traffic: only your equipment is on the cable
• Low latency and the full speed of your ports
• Redundancy: a second path next to your network connection

If you want one network across racks or datacenters without your own cables, look at VLANs between datacenters.

What does it cost?

• Racks directly next to each other: only a one-off patching fee; no monthly charge.
• Racks further apart in the same datacenter: a one-off fee and, depending on the datacenter, a monthly charge for the patch connection.
• To another company in the datacenter: the datacenter's cross-connect rate, one-off and monthly.

Amounts differ per datacenter and per situation. You always get a quote first.

Requesting a cross-connect

1. Open a support ticket.
2. Include:
   • from which rack to which rack;
   • fibre or copper, and which connector or module type you use;
   • the speed you need;
   • whether you want a redundant second connection.
3. You receive a quote with the one-off fee, any monthly charge and the lead time.
4. After your go-ahead the cable is patched and you test the connection together with us.
