Which datacenter locations are available?
The locations where you can get colocation at PlanetNode, and what each location does and does not offer.
By Yvan Watchman Updated
PlanetNode offers colocation at three locations in the Netherlands. All three are connected to our own network (AS211588, held by Innovation Harbor B.V.), so infrastructure at different locations can talk to each other as if it were in one rack.
Colocation locations
NorthC Kabelweg (Amsterdam)
NorthC Amsterdam at Kabelweg 48a in Amsterdam-Westpoort, next to Sloterdijk station. Part of our network core lives here as well, so you are directly on the network without extra hops.
- Shared rack, half rack or full rack
- Cross connects to other parties in the datacenter on request
Databarn (Amsterdam)
Databarn at Zekeringstraat 35, also in Amsterdam-Westpoort and within walking distance of NorthC. Connected to the rest of our network.
- Shared rack, half rack or full rack
- A good second Amsterdam location for redundancy
Greenhouse Datacenters (Naaldwijk)
Greenhouse at Industriestraat in Naaldwijk, in the Westland region. Note: at Greenhouse you can only get a shared rack or a full rack, no half rack.
- Shared rack or full rack
- Your own AMS-IX connection is possible through a cross connect (that is your connection, not our peering)
Network core is not colocation
Our network core runs at NorthC Kabelweg and NIKHEF Housing in Amsterdam. NIKHEF is network only; you cannot place servers there.
Why more than one location?
- Redundancy: spread your infrastructure over two locations, so an incident at one site does not take your service down.
- Geographic spread: the two Amsterdam locations are close together; for real spread you combine Amsterdam with Naaldwijk.
- VLANs between locations: with a VLAN between datacenters you use one network across locations.
Choosing the right location
Things to consider:
- Rack size: a half rack is only available in Amsterdam.
- Proximity: where are your users, your other services or your own office?
- Redundancy: if you want two locations, Amsterdam plus Naaldwijk is the usual combination.
- Availability: rack space and power vary over time. Ask for current availability before you order equipment.
Getting started
- See the colocation page for packages and prices.
- Open a support ticket with what you want to place (number of U, power, network) and we will work out which location fits.
