How do I make a backup of my game server?
How to make a backup of your game server in the game panel, download or restore it, and make your own copy via SFTP.

You make a backup of your game server in the game panel under Backups, with the Create Backup button. That's also where you download or restore a backup. If you also want a copy of your own, you fetch the files via SFTP. This works the same for Hytale, Enshrouded and our other games.

Make a backup in the game panel
- Log in to the game panel and open your server.
- Go to the Backups tab.
- Click Create Backup.
- Give the backup a name you recognise, for example
before update, and confirm. - Wait until the backup is finished. It then appears in the list.
When to make a backup?
Always make a backup before you update the game, install mods, change settings or start a big building project.
Download or restore a backup
In the list, click the three dots next to a backup:
- Download saves a copy to your own computer.
- Restore puts the server back to that backup.
Note
Restore overwrites your server's current files. Anything that changed after the backup is lost.
Can't make a backup?
The number of backups per server is limited. If you're at the maximum, first delete an old backup using the three dots and Delete.
Make your own copy via SFTP
If you want to keep more copies than fit in the game panel:
- Stop your server, so the world doesn't change while you copy it.
- Connect with SFTP.
- Download all files, or at least the folder with your world or savegame and your configuration files, to a folder on your computer.
Restoring works the other way round: stop your server, upload the files via SFTP and start your server again.
