Troubleshooting Web hosting

I can't log in to DirectAdmin or webmail

DirectAdmin or webmail won't load, or keeps refusing you? Usually your IP address was blocked after failed logins. Here's how to find the cause.

By Hermie Updated

Does DirectAdmin or webmail not load, or do you get a timeout? Then your IP address has usually been blocked temporarily after too many failed logins. Check that first: if it does work over 4G or 5G on your phone, the block is on your IP address.

Below are the causes we see most often.

Your IP address is blocked

After a number of wrong login attempts, the server temporarily blocks your IP address. How to solve that is explained in My IP is blocked in DirectAdmin, what now?

You changed your password while logged in to webmail

Did you change the password of an email account in DirectAdmin while you were still logged in to webmail? Then webmail keeps trying the old password. That causes failed logins, and then a block.

To prevent this:

  1. Change the password of your email account in webmail itself: in Roundcube, go to Settings and change your password there.
  2. Do you want to do it in DirectAdmin anyway? Log out of webmail first.

Your hosting was moved to a new server

After a migration to a new server, you log in through the new address. You'll find it in the email you received about the migration. Check that you use that address, and not an old bookmark.

Tip

Do you use the login button in my.planetnode.net? Then you always end up at the right server.

FTP or SFTP doesn't work?

A block can also come from your own router at home. Some routers block file transfer connections. Try another network, for example a hotspot on your phone. If it works there, check your router's settings. See also How do I set up SFTP for my website?

Still not working?

Open a ticket and include:

  • your IPv4 and IPv6 address, which you can find at ip.communication.tools;
  • the domain name of your webhosting package;
  • what you see: an error message, a timeout or a rejected password;
  • from which network it does or doesn't work.
