What you get

What is in Webhosting Free

The same stack as Small and Medium, in smaller numbers. These are the specifications of the plan as you also see them on the order card.

  • Connect one domain name (one you already own, or one you register with us separately)
  • 1 GB of storage on NVMe
  • 5 mailboxes on your own domain, with Roundcube webmail
  • DirectAdmin control panel for files, email, DNS and databases
  • Free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, renewed automatically
  • 1 MySQL database, enough for WordPress or another CMS
  • CloudLinux OS and Imunify360: fixed resources per account and malware protection
  • Hosted in the Netherlands on our own network, with locations in Amsterdam, Ede and Naaldwijk

Where the limits are

Honest about what free is not

Free means small, not worse. These are the limits, so you know what you are getting into before you start.

1 GB of storage
Enough for a small site, a portfolio or a WordPress install without a large media library. If your site outgrows it, Small is the next step.
Traffic under fair use
There is no hard bundle and no counter that runs down to zero. We measure at the 95th percentile: a busy day does not count, structurally high usage does. How that works is on our fair use page.
Inactive? Removed after 30 days
A Free plan that is not used for thirty days is removed from the system. Put a site live or log in to DirectAdmin and it simply stays.
No domain name included
You connect a domain you already own, or register one with us at the yearly price of the extension. That goes for every plan, the paid ones too.

How we measure traffic and why we do not sell bundles is explained on the fair use page. No domain yet? Sort out domain name and hosting in one go.

Who it is for

Who free suits, and who it does not

A free plan is not a smaller version of everything; it is exactly right for a number of situations and too small for others.

Yes

Choose Free if you

  • Want a test environment to get to know DirectAdmin and our hosting
  • Are putting a portfolio, CV site or landing page online
  • Are building your first WordPress site and do not yet know how big it will get
  • Want a domain to work already, with email and a simple page

No

Choose Small or Medium if you

  • Run a web shop or a site with many images and downloads
  • Want more than one domain name on the same plan
  • Need more storage, more mailboxes or more databases
  • Have a site your income depends on and do not want to see disappear after a month of silence

From free to Small

Site growing? Upgrade without a migration

Free and Small run on the same servers and in the same panel. Upgrading is therefore not a migration: your files, database, email and DNS stay put, only the limits get wider. You pick the moment yourself, and there is no introductory rate that goes up later. How much more room, domains and email you get is on the card next to this.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about free web hosting

Question not listed? Get in touch, we are happy to help.

Yes. Webhosting Free costs nothing per month and no credit card is needed to order. It is not a trial that turns into a paid subscription after a month; the plan stays free for as long as you use it. If you want more room, you choose to upgrade yourself.

A Free plan that has been inactive for thirty days is removed from the system. That keeps room for people who do use it. Log in to DirectAdmin now and then or put a site live, and your plan simply stays.

No. You connect a domain you already own, or register one with us at the yearly price of the extension. A domain you register with us points to your plan right away. Our price list shows what each extension costs.

Yes. Through Installatron in DirectAdmin you install WordPress with one click, on the free plan too. One gigabyte is enough for a small site without a large media library; resize your images before uploading and it fits comfortably.

Traffic falls under fair use, on Free as well. There is no bundle that runs out and no pause at the end of the month. We measure at the 95th percentile, so a peak day does not count; only structurally high usage does. If your site grows beyond that, Small or a VPS is a better fit, and we will discuss that with you.

Yes. NVMe storage, CloudLinux with fixed resources per account, Imunify360 and DirectAdmin are the same for every plan. The difference between Free and the paid plans is room and numbers, not speed or security.

No domain name yet? Register your domain with us and it points to your free plan right away.
