What to look for
How to compare hosting providers
Comparing web hosting goes beyond the price per month. The cheapest provider is rarely the best choice if you want reliable hosting with quick help when you need it. Look at least at:
- Support: do you talk to an engineer or a call centre, and how fast?
- Isolation: does your site share resources with hundreds of neighbours, or does your account have fixed limits (CloudLinux)?
- Storage: NVMe, SATA SSD or still a hard drive? You notice it on every page.
- Location and network: where are the servers, and does the host peer directly with your visitors' ISPs?
- Security: is malware scanning and brute-force protection included, or a paid extra?
- SSL and email: free Let's Encrypt and webmail should be standard.
- Notice period: cancel monthly, or are you locked in for a year?
- Upgrade path: can you move to a bigger plan or a VPS without migrating?

If you want to manage a server
- Your own software, containers, a bot or API outside PHP
- Guaranteed cores and memory that are yours alone
- Root access, your own operating system, your own configuration
- A shop or application that outgrows the fair use of web hosting
Where we stand
No mass product, but honest advice
PlanetNode is not the cheapest web host in the Netherlands and we do not try to be. Comparison sites sort by price; we sort by what goes wrong when your site gets busy or your email does not arrive. That is when you want someone on the line who knows your hosting, not a ticket in a queue.
